Why we celebrate…

‘Silent night, holy night. All is calm, all is bright.’

Christmas is here, whether you like it or not. I am not sure about you, however, our Christmas’ never quite reflect many of the lyrics above. In fact, Christmas tends to bring the opposite of silence and calm. There is the manic racing to the shops to make sure the right presents are gathered for the right friends and family members (and only after having the lengthy debate of what the ‘right present’ even is). Following the pushing through crowds for presents comes the pushing through the crowds for the food, be it turkey, ham, pheasant, or the slightly different variation ‘three bird roast’ (or Turducken as it is known in the U.S.). With the completion of the shopping comes, of course, the careful balancing of wrapping (and hiding) presents, cooking the food (hopefully remembering to get it all out of the oven), and making sure that everyone is content. Christmas is anything but silent and calm…

However, when I intentionally take a moment to stop and think about why it is we even celebrate Christmas, everything changes. You see, it is because of the birth of this history changing, revolution starting, incredible little baby that we have this CHRISTmas. Suddenly, it is a holy night. For many of us today, Jesus Christ was just ‘some guy’, a great leader maybe, but not much more. However, to me, Jesus is more than that, He is my Lord, my Saviour and dare I say it, my friend. I know that is a strange concept for many to take on board, and that probably raises questions as to why and how that is even possible. But, I and many others would love the opportunity to share with you what Jesus means to us. Be it over a coffee, or after a Sunday morning service, or at one of the many events we have planned this month.

Regardless of where you are in terms of faith and belief, one thing is for sure, this Jesus, changed much of this world. Could that be worth some of your time this season?

Having just moved to Gamlingay, and the church, there is still much I and the family are getting to know, but we welcome the opportunity to meet many of you and plug into this fantastic community.  An opportunity for this could be the annual Christmas Concert happening on December 6th. Do come join us, and kick the season off with a bang. We are also very excited to be hosting the Gamlingay First School Carol Concert this year. And there will, of course, be our Carols by Candlelight as well, immediately after the Messy Church Christmas party.

Do please get in touch should you require more details about any of the events we are holding, or simply.

Looking forward to getting to know you all.
