“I didn’t go to religion to make me happy. I always knew a bottle of Port would do that. If you want a religion to make you feel really comfortable, I certainly don’t recommend Christianity.” ― C.S. Lewis

Often the greatest discomfort that many of us experience surrounds things that we don’t understand or can’t explain. As a Christian, many of the questions I get are about the supernatural or miraculous. They usually start with, ‘Do you believe in that stuff?’ and move onto ‘How can you believe that? How are miracles even possible?’ So let me take this opportunity to share some of my experiences, which are often uncomfortable, but also incredible.

The first Sunday in June we are celebrating Pentecost (check out Acts 2 for this awesome account), which is when God poured out His Holy Spirit on thousands, as Jesus promised would happen. It is this power that lives in all those who believe in Him that allows for the impossible to be made possible. Sounds crazy right? But what if I told you it’s not.

There are many stories I could share with you, where the impossible has been made possible: when someone prayed for my painful dodgy right knee (years of pain) and the pain was taken, never to come back again; or when I’ve prayed for healing of people’s backs, knees, hands, and seen God heal and restore people. However, there’s one that I want to focus on. Back in April, I was working with the Chaplaincy team in Peterborough. Our duties landed me spending time with Nico who is homeless. We started talking about life over a sandwich. He mentioned to me that he had no sight in his right eye, and only twenty percent in his left, due to cataracts. So, I decided to ask him if I could pray for him. I put my right hand on his left eye, and just asked God, by the power of the Holy Spirit, in the name of Jesus, to restore Nico’s eye. When I finished praying, Nico was shocked, overjoyed, and honestly, a bit freaked out, that he could see perfectly from his eye. The impossible made possible, sight restored to the blind (check out Luke 4:18, these are Jesus’ words).

But why did God do this? Well, I believe so as to show us, His people, that he loves us, and wants to restore us.

If you are sat there, reading this, feeling slightly uncomfortable, that’s ok. I am too sometimes. But, the reality is, that the Christian faith is one that is more than just the easily explainable. It isn’t always comfortable, but it is always astounding.

I am sure that you probably have an opinion or thought on the miraculous, and I would love to hear all about it, and further share with you what I believe, whether you agree with me or not.
