Kids say the darnedest things!
There are several Tv shows worldwide, which focus on this sort of thing. Bill Cosby had a show when I was growing up, Steve Harvey currently has the show ‘Little big shots’, where the kids are talented beyond belief, but the major entertainment comes from the interviews, and hearing what the kids say, and why!
Unfortunately, in today’s world, I hear less talk about how great kids are, and more talk about, the kids of today! The troublemakers, and so on! Now don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of kids, doing things they shouldn’t be doing, but there are also plenty of adults in the same boat!
And the kids of today, are only a reflection of the parenting of yesterday, as that is all passed down…
But I digress, as that is not my point.
My point is that kids have a certain perspective On life, that is unjaded, untainted, and dare I say free!
As a parent, often times I think my girls don’t have a filter… which can make life a little trickier at times… but it’s simple!
We read in the Bible, where Jesus actually talks about having faith like little children:
And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
We’re meant to be more like children!
Some of you listening to this right now, are thinking, no way, children have no responsibilities, pressures, stress, that’s why they’re so free! But if you cast your mind back to being a kid, you’ll remember having responsibilities and pressures (equally as significant to you at the time), you just didn’t see them as the determining factors for how you’d live your life!
So I wonder how you days could change, if you approached your challenges like children? What if our perspectives changed?
I’ve always said, I have a simple faith, which I often try to complicate! And when I do, I sit down and have a chat with my 5-year-old. I ask her the questions about Bible stories, and observe her mind at work! I have a lot to re-learn from her!
This week we’re hosting our Holiday Club, where we see loads of kids come, and explore Bible stories with us, through song, conversation, craft, dramas. It’s faith as a child explores it! I tend to find, as an adult, I have a GREAT time, but I learn loads as well!
I have to remember to be like a child… especially if I want to enter the kingdom of Heaven….
So why does that look like for you?
Why not head to church on Sunday, and ask the questions! I for one would love to chat with you, and explore how we can travel through life as children of God!
