Happiness

“It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness.” – Charles Spurgeon

Let me ask you something, are you happy? Why or why not? Maybe that’s too big a question.

Let me ask you this: what brings you happiness? Take a second and think about it.

Most people I ask tend to give two broad answers (please know, I am not insinuating these are the only two answers, but they seem prevalent). The first answer indicates their happiness comes from success (often reflected by the car they drive, the house they own, the holidays they take). The second shows that their happiness comes from people (time with friends, family; deep seeded relationships). Do you find yourself in one of those categories?

I bring this up as this is possibly one of the biggest human desires, happiness. We long to be happy in all things, our jobs, relationships, everything. Unfortunately, I often feel we seek happiness in the wrong places. As a culture, we are led to believe that our happiness is dependent on the material things it provides and the rankings we achieve in our workplaces.

However…

The other answer is that our happiness is built on our relationships. Spending time with those that matter to us. There’s a sense that material things can come and go, but time spent with people, laughs, tears and life shared, doesn’t disappear (especially as it lives on in our memories).

What if I told you though, that even relationships could let you down? Unfortunately, people fall short. I am not perfect and I disappoint many, unintentionally. How then do I find happiness that is not fleeting and temporary?

It is in fact still in a relationship that I find such happiness, a relationship with God. Now I know that many of you are probably rolling your eyes to that answer. However, I give you my answer with all genuineness and sincerity in as much as God is still alive, reaching out to all those who want to be in relationship with Him. And God is never changing, never failing, all powerful, all knowing, all amazing! If there is ever anyone for me to enter into a relationship with, that I knew would always be there for me, have my best interest at heart, and genuinely care about me, no matter how ridiculous I was being, it is God. As with all relationships, God will sometimes say things I don’t like, and I’ll try to convince Him He is wrong. Then I’ll come to my senses, and realise He was always right. And I’ll laugh, and realise the huge amount of joy and happiness I have that comes from this AMAZING relationship.

It’s not about what I have, but how much I enjoy that makes happiness. I have yet to enjoy anything more than my relationship with God.

You might disagree. But I would love the opportunity to introduce you to the best relationship I have ever had. I believe that relationship will bring you more happiness, not just now, but forever.

Get in touch, and let’s set something up.
